Why did you start your business?

leap of faith

You are doing it right when becoming an entrepreneur, or is it not?

Most people (including me) when taking the leap from employment to starting a business, with the wrong reasons.

Why did I started my business?

Oh! because I can make more money. I’m not limited to my salary and I have flexible time (no getting stucked in traffic jams will be a good reason).

It is true that with business, we can achieve those mentioned but is that all we wanted?

Do I Start Blogging or Improve My Writing First?

thinkerAlternative title would be: Is there such thing as perfection?

This is solely my personal opinion but you’re welcome to add in yours at the comment section.

As for me, I would start blogging first, and keep on improving by practicing. As there are no end to improvements, so it would mean that we will not get started at all if we wait until our writing is perfect.

Is there such a thing call perfect?

As long as you are able to write an email or SMS, you have the ability to communicate in writing.

Being perfect is to take action now, not waiting for something that would not materialise. Perfect means to have a right mind, whether the outcome is perfect or not is insignificant. The right mind is not to waste time. Once we know what needs to be done, don’t give ourselves excuses or reasons, just get it done.

With such mindset, I am able to take action now just like the song “It’s Now Or Never”.

If we are waiting for things to happen, chances are it will happen but by someone else.

Hope this short note can be a reminder for myself and also for anyone that find this useful. Happy taking action!

What The Road System Makes Me Realize…

RoadComparing today and yesterday’s trip to fetch my wife after a training class, I found that traveling on the same road on both days can varies in the time taken to arrive at the destination.

Yesterday, I left office at about 7.00 PM. and reach to the destination on 8.00 PM. It takes 1 hour for me to reach there. And today, the same road, but leaving office at 5.00 PM, I’ve reach there at 5.15 PM.

In my quest of saving time from unnecessary wastage, I’m wondering that just by traveling at different times can save me a big amount of time (and money too). Isn’t this interesting?!

Over the past few months, I’ve been trying different timing of starting my journey to and from my home and office. Observing the amount of time spent with different combination, I’m trying to work out a pattern.

338505_logbookPattern is used by human to predict outcomes from a given set of inputs. The more complete the pattern, the better the prediction model is. So, similarly for success, if we are in the journey to discover the pattern that works for us, we will eventually make it to our destination by applying the right sequence of variables.

Would you agree? That patterns to success does exists.

Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication

The above quote from Leornado da Vinci.

Whether it is in communication, presentation, web design, UI design, always keep it simple. That is where sophistication comes in.

People pay higher price for sophistication rather than complex.

Complex is interesting. Simple is usable. If you have the time, go through the slides below.

This is what I’ve written back in year 2002

My article about Knowledge Workers written back when I just started business not long ago.

In my opinion, knowledge worker is an important concept to grasp.

Just a little side note, I’m currently working on increasing value for everyone I know (my colleagues) by turning them to knowledge workers rather than labor workers.

Labor vs Knowledge

As it may be obvious, knowledge is power.

Those who work on improving on knowledge has higher chance of earning a better income with better lifestyle. Compared to laborious work, it is more towards active income where the income stops as soon as the work stops.

Anyway, here is my article written back in Oct 2002:

Knowledge Workers, The New Workforce

There’s some grammar mistakes along the way, please don’t laugh too hard.

Do let me know your thoughts, ok?

Experience is measured by the mistakes made, not by years.

How many mistakes we made? Big and small.

Along the way, we learn from the mistakes in order to not repeat the same mistakes again.

That’s advancements.

How I Escaped from Robbers

clock
I was almost taken down by the robbers. Worst still, it is so near to me and is invisible. So, it’s hard to fight. I did struggle for a few years and now it is easier since I’ve found a few tricks under my sleeves.
Here are some of the invisible time robbers
  1. Things that I do repeatedly
  2. Things that I don’t like to do
  3. Skills I need to acquire just to do it once or twice (non-mainstream skills)
  4. Things that comes in unexpectedly
  5. Things that took more time because of no-planning
  6. Micro sleeps
  7. Traveling
