I’ve not been writing for a couple of weeks. This is because I’m busy working on some investments myself. Will share this more when I’ve measured the results. Okay, now let’s go back to the topic…
My mistake – focusing on the wrong things.
A few weeks ago, I was attending a seminar, which was organized by Success Resources. The CEO of the company, Richard Tan went up the stage to share with the audience how he made it to being the top company in their industry.
The answer was simple, yet powerful – “I spend 5% of my time organizing and 95% of the time selling. While others may be spending 95% of their time organizing and 5% selling.”
How true?!
At a first glance, it may sound awful simple. But it hits me as I reflect back on what I’ve done in my business and how I wasn’t impressed with my results. If I want more sales, first I need to focus on selling itself and not other things.
The mistake I made was spending too much time (organizing) doing the things that are not bringing in more business.
Putting it simply, it may be because we are too carried away with the technicalities of the profession we are in.
Or, we are hiding something (maybe afraid of selling) by keeping ourselves busy with other sorts of activities.
Be bold and work on yourself.
Go out and meet some people. Socialize and try to solve problems. That’s how business is started.
If you are reading this and it makes sense to you, I would like share some tips to overcome this with you if you don’t mind.
Start working on your existing contacts. Call them up, ask them out for a drink or meet them in their office. Whether your friends, customers, ex-colleagues, ex-boss, whatsoever…
If you do not have much contacts, you can start with joining business networking, specific-interest clubs and other places where you can meet people. Attending seminars! There’s another one. Just remember to bring more business cards.
Alright, that’s all for this week.
Do comment below and let me know whether this makes sense to you…
Take care!
